My approach to bookmaking is unique in that my customers are part of the one-of-a-kind design process. Together we discuss the details: favorite colors, theme preferences, intended use, dimensions and page number. At that point you can leave it up to me or dig through your personal treasure collections (a bit of your grandmother’s lace, pressed leaves from last spring, a piece of your own artwork, an old postcard or a fun family photo) and send me a care-package of those items to incorporate into your specialty book. I then supplement your treasures with my own, drawing from an extensive collection of decorative papers, pressed flowers and seeds, antique buttons and vintage fabrics to create a work of art that reflects you.
Every book is treated as a whole, creative package to be matched with a whole, creative person.
I make all of my books from scratch. The covers are cut to size and the text pages are ripped from large sheets by hand, giving an appealing deckled edge.
Each book is hand-stitched using Coptic-link or Long-stitch bindings and include some variation of the following materials:
- Funky recycled and vintage papers and/or hand-made, decorative papers from around the world.
- Pressed flowers, leaves, seeds and such.
- Collected or hand painted images.
- Fabrics, buttons, beads, mica, tea bags, and natural dyes.
- Irish waxed linen of various colors.
- 100% Recycled Natural White, Classic Laid (acid free, no chlorine used in processing, nice textured surface and appropriate thickness for multi-use text paper)
